12/13 Meeting with the Governor

The meeting with the Governor should have been billed as the meeting with his aide. But it went well. We can not compete with the Met Council, who were meeting at the same time we where. If you were the Governor who would you pick? Met Council or a couple bar owners, a charitable gambling group and a lobbyist?

We covered our bases, represented us all well, did the best we could with what we had to work with. I think Heidi will represent us pretty well. I was happy with the lobbyist for the MLBA and we were respectable. All parties seem to believe no ban or a partial ban will pass. The house is our best bet.

I believe the lawsuit by the charitable gambling people and us (local bar owners) will force the Mpls, Bloomington and Hennepin County ban to be held off until the end of the session and then rolled back to match the state. Not everyone agrees with me.

The fund raiser for Mark Stenlein was good. Even though Peter McLaughlin and Randy Johnson were there. I did not harm either of them. I was on my best behavior. When Mark introduced Peter as the possible next Mayor of Minneapolis, I quietly told the pres. of the MLBA, "over my dead body", Randy laughed, no one else heard. I was even asked out on a date by one of Mark's people. That was interesting.

I will be around Tuesday and Wed. but Thursday and Friday I am with my daughter who is home from college to have surgery on her leg. Then comes Christmas, and a bunch of relatives with issue who are staying at my house for a week, if you can believe that.

We are running out of time to contact the state reps. can we get everyone working!
